Questions people ask
Short answers. The Terms of Service has the full wording.
Who can borrow?
Anyone with an M-Pesa line in their own name, a National ID, and an M-Pesa statement to upload. Your limit is set from what the statement shows and grows as you repay on time.
How much can I borrow, and how fast?
Everyone who qualifies starts at KES 1,500, and the limit doubles as repaid loans build history, up to what your M-Pesa statement supports. Once you confirm a loan, the money is sent to your M-Pesa line, usually within minutes.
What does a loan cost?
A flat rate for the term you choose, taken before the money is sent. There are no fees. A KES 1,500 loan for 20 days pays out KES 1,155 and you repay KES 1,500. The full table is on the pricing page.
What is the effective interest rate?
The law asks lenders to show what a loan's cost would be if it ran for a whole year. For a short loan that is a large number because a short loan's cost is stretched over 365 days. You never pay it; you pay the flat figures once. We show it so you can compare us with anyone else honestly.
If I can't pay on time?
Pay what you can, as soon as you can, through the Paybill with your loan ID as the account number. Nothing is added day by day; what you owe stays the figure on your agreement. After the due date you cannot take a new loan until this one is settled; after 33 days your account is blocked from borrowing until it is settled and reviewed. We never add penalties and we never contact anyone but you.
Do you report to CRB?
Your repayment record, good and bad, is shared with licensed credit reference bureaus as the law requires. Paying on time builds a record other lenders can see. A default is reported only after at least 30 days' notice, and we update the bureau when the loan is settled.
Will you contact my family or employer?
No. We never contact anyone but you about your loan, and we do not have their numbers: the app does not read your contacts, messages or location.
Is my money safe if I stop using the app?
We hold no money for you, so there is nothing to lose: after 12 months without activity the account is simply dormant, and you carry on by signing in. A loan still owed stays owed.
How do I complain?
Use Help in the app: every complaint is logged, acknowledged by SMS with a reference and answered within 30 days. If you are not satisfied you may go to the Central Bank of Kenya, and for a data matter to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
