How Niazime works
From your phone number to money in M-Pesa, and what happens after.
Borrowing
Sign up with your M-Pesa number. A 6-digit code by SMS proves the line is yours. That line is where loans are sent and repayments come from.
Confirm the M-Pesa line is yours. You approve a KES 1 M-Pesa prompt with your M-Pesa PIN and we send it straight back, free. It proves the wallet is yours, not just the SIM.
Verify who you are. Your National ID number is checked against the government registry and the name must match your M-Pesa line. No selfie, no photos.
Upload your M-Pesa statement. Request a full statement from M-Pesa (it arrives by email as a PDF, usually with a password), upload it, and answer a few questions about your income and other loans. This is how we score you; we never read anything else on your phone.
See your limit. Everyone starts at KES 1,500; your statement decides whether you qualify and how far the limit can grow. It doubles as your repaid loans earn enough history.
Pick amount and days, then confirm. The screen shows the interest, what you receive and what you repay, and the effective annual rate. You confirm with your app PIN; that is your signature on the loan agreement, which you can open any time.
Money in M-Pesa. Once you confirm, the net amount is sent to your line, usually within minutes.
Repay. Pay through the Paybill with your loan ID as the account number, or tap Repay in the app for an M-Pesa prompt. Part-payments are welcome; each one comes off the balance.
If you are late
Nothing is added day by day: what you owe stays the figure on your agreement. After the due date we remind you and you cannot take a new loan until this one is settled. After 33 days your account is blocked from borrowing until it is settled and reviewed. At 90 days the loan is classed as defaulted and we continue to recover the amount from you. Your repayment record, good and bad, is shared with licensed credit reference bureaus as the law requires, after notice.
We never contact your family, employer or contacts. We do not have their numbers.
